TORONTO?-?

Rain or shine, Ford Fest is ready to storm Scarborough.

Mayor Rob Ford?s annual backyard barbecue goes on the road for the first time Friday with a free event in Thomson Memorial Park.

Councillor Doug Ford was watching the weather forecast like a hawk ahead of the barbecue that?s set to start at 6 p.m. and run until 10 p.m.

?We?re just crossing our fingers, it looks like it is going to rain but we?re going to go forward with it rain or shine,? Ford told the Toronto Sun. ?We?ll see how things turn out ? if it rains then I don?t know about the attendance but if it?s nice then I?m sure we?ll have a few folks drop in there.?

Ford had hundreds of pre-cooked hamburgers, veggie burgers and halal burgers ready to go for the crowd. Attendees will also be able to have free wine or beer ? with a limit of two drinks per person.

?It?s just a massive, massive undertaking,? Ford said. ?Everything else seems to be good, it?s just this rain is going to put a super damper on things.?

The Ward 2-Etobicoke North councillor said they wanted to export the event to the east-end from their family?s Etobicoke backyard.

?It?s no secret, we love Scarborough and Scarborough loves us and we?ve got to show them our appreciation, too, and we?re going to rally the troops for subways,? he said.

Mayor Rob Ford sent out an automated telephone blast invited people to the event.

?On behalf of the Ford family, I would like to invite you and friends to join us at Ford Fest barbecue in Scarborough,? Ford said in the call.

?There?ll be free food, free drinks, amusement rides for kids and entertainment for the whole family. Again, hope to see everyone there this Friday, July 5 at Thomson Memorial Park.?

Singer Jenny James is expected to perform at Ford Fest. She?s penned a song about Rob Ford called ?Mayor Ford (The World Will Remember).?

Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker ? whose ward includes the park ? had some simple advice for the Fords.

?Enjoy and party ? you?re in Scarborough,? he said.

De Baeremaeker won?t be heading to Ford Fest ? he?s hosting a movie night at another park in his ward that night.

And another party kicks off Friday night in Scarborough. The Taste of Lawrence festival starts at 6 p.m. and runs through the weekend along Lawrence Ave. E. between Warden Ave. and Birchmount Rd.
