Shannon Miller, America?s most decorated gymnast and an advocate for women?s health, will discuss ?Competing with Cancer? at the Dudley H. Davis Center at UVM on Friday, Sept. 21 from 7 to 8:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Miller, who hails from Florida, is a seven-time ? two Gold, two Silver and three Bronze ? Olympic medalist. The recipient of nine World Championship medals and the member of eight halls of fame, she served as a commentator and analyst for ABC News, Yahoo, and other media outlets at this summer?s London 2012 Olympics. In 2011, Miller was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her presentation will focus on her experiences as a competitor, commentator, and cancer survivor.
An author, motivational speaker, television/radio host, and a champion for the prevention of childhood obesity, Miller is the owner of Shannon Miller Lifestyle: Health and Fitness for Women, a company she launched in 2010. She has produced a series of fitness books, cookbooks, and fitness DVD. In 2011, she launched the Shannon Miller Walk-Fit program. In addition, Miller serves as president and founder of the Shannon Miller Foundation to fight childhood obesity and on a number of other health/wellness-related boards.
